Obama's legacy
I've heard a lot of talk lately about OBama's legacy lately.

After hearing tonight's farewell speech, where he harped on about Democracy, (bit hypocritical after he lectured and threatened the Brits over the Brexit vote) then he starts his divisive rhetoric about Brown people v White privilege. Made me think what an absolute joy it is that this mans time is up.

Looking at what he did in 8 years, Domestically,
He took office with a majority in house and Senate and proceeded to Govern with no Reaching across the aisle, setting a partisan tone for the rest of his presidency.....

He inherited a collapsing economy at which the Federal Reserve played a major roll in stabilizing with its Monetary policy of ZIRP and Quantitative Easing. Even with the intervention of the Federal Reserve Obama managed to more than double the national debt, which currently sits at close to 20 Trillion Dollars.OBama himself proclaimed at the time he took office that a national debt of 9 Trillion was Immoral, yet went on to spend more than every PResident before him combined... Even to this day the USA budget deficit is close to 750 billion a year........

(Now some people will blame Bush for the housing market collapse but the truth is many economists warned and subsequently lay the blame at Alan Greenspan and Larry Summers who gave birth to the housing crisis with their Laissez faire economics. Deregulating Wall Street was the root of the problem. All this occurred under Clintons presidency).

Then there's Obamacare, a bill that is unaffordable with ridiculously high deductibles and health care companies are dumping it all over the country cos it's too expensive. It's about to collapse, even Bill Clinton called it ridiculous... Gottabeoneof the worst and most costliest mistakes ever to be passed thru Congress. Inner cities in America are a disaster.

His Foreign policy is a total disaster, I think we can all agree on that.

Some positives:
He got Bin Laden, Is an inspiring speaker. Economy has improved especially the last 2 years, Stock mkt is up, home values are up and finally we are starting to see wages rise.

Anyway, Not the worst but far from the best, Still I'm so ready for change.

Re: Obama's legacy
He did all he could possibly do without truly being allowed to do what he actually could to improve things for poorer Americans, the Republican controlled houses blocked almost everything he tried to put through.
Regarding Syria I think the world who supposedly loved Obama refused point blank to support him and we will never truly know what would have happened I personally think a lot less deaths would have occurred than actually have done so, and millions of less refugees too would be roaming around the world, there was obvious support within Syria for change, but what I will never ever understand is why America feels the need to police the Islamic world anyway, I mean yes it is undemocratic but so fucking what why get involved ?, I doubt that wishing to invade Syria had anything to do with Obama and more to do with American political dogma, they will forever be sticking there ore in to screw up one part of the world or another its what America does and as Obama said in his speech will continue to do in order to make democracy reign throughout the world, although that is just speak for 'American gaining control wherever they want'.
Obama's legacy is that he tried his best and lifted a dead economy into a thriving working one, some Presidents do not care, I think he did and was truly brilliant in some parts yet insufficient in others.
President Obama was a peoples President and the first Black president who history will one day write was treated like shit by the right wing media, who were savage in their contempt for both him and his wonderful wife along with republicans who with pathetic blindness Instantly forgot that as well as being the son of a black African man he was the son of a white Irish American woman.

He got a nobel peace prize for promising to rid the world of nuclear weapons and the proceeded to build more nuclear weapons than any other president ever.

He masterminded the drone campaign that has killed numerous innocents including children across the world.

He led a country that felt so disenfranchised the majority of them voted for Donald bloody trump as an alternative.

He did some really cool stuff on talk shows and made everyone smile. He is a cool guy.

Without doubt and by far the coolest President ever, and probably the best Orator too.

He will now go on to make an absolute killing as I would Imagine selling Obama will be easier than giving away free water in a heatwave.

The best American President of my lifetime, unfortunately his hands were constantly tied by the American political system.

Seemed like a genuine guy who just wanted to make life better for everyone.

I hope his wife runs for President next time around.

Ha ha ha! stoneman FFS? Is the USA Presidency to be a family affair? If that is the case expect another Trump in charge next time around....

She speaks well, she is sensible and, unlike Clinton, she comes with no baggage.

Re: Obama's legacy
His legacy is a nation more divided than at any time since the 60s and possibly ever. The divisions of the past were between north and south, no it seems to be nationwide. He has played a big part in that too.

Re: Obama's legacy
Nutsin...

He should have sorted immigration reform in first 2 years as promised when he has majorities in both houses...

Obama care badly implemented...lied about...over sold and expensive for most. Good for poor and sick...nit for the rest...

He had the GOP that did not want to work with him on anything....main objective was to make sure he was not re-elected after 4 years but he was.

Foreign policy except for Syria was ok...

Good to change the attitudes towards Israel...they needed to be told.

And you think Trump will do better...deliver on his promises...???

He is draining the swamp...but creating a much deeper and wider one...Cabinet has some dodgy picks...

There will be change...but will it be good for all...certainky the rich will get richer...

Careful what you wish for...

Re: Obama's legacy
No president (or prime minister) will ever be able to please everyone.

I mean I don't live there and so don't really give a fuck, but from my sofa over the pond, he seemed to at least be better than the likes of Bush before him.

He always seemed to talk a lot of sense to me, is that why he's become so out of favour across the pond?
